“The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself.”

Therapy for sex workers

I am an a affirming and non-judgmental therapist that offers a safe and confidential space for sex workers. Many therapists or helping professionals don’t recognizes sex work as a valid and legitimate profession and I wanted to create a safe place for this profession. The Therapy space should be one that you can be celebrated and to be allowed to show up authentically because this is so important in the healing process.

Therapists for sex workers should acknowledge the challenges of your job, both validating your work under capitalism and not adding to the stigma that you already experience.  Sex work can be emotionally challenging, with unique stressors and vulnerabilities. Affirming therapy provides emotional support, helping sex workers develop coping strategies to navigate the complexities of their work, manage boundaries, and maintain their mental well-being--without making the problem sex work itself. Having a therapist who understands the experience of stigma and the intricacies of the work can be hugely validating.

Though the dominant narrative insists sex workers are helpless victims, many are adept entrepreneurs who enjoy their work. Enjoying the work or not, some sex workers suffer from embarrassment or stigma and may hide their work from many people in their lives or everyone in their lives. Sex workers may risk prosecution or violence from law enforcement and others. Whatever you have experienced I am here to honor your and help you heal.

I offer cultural humility, deep listening, client-led psychotherapy, and collaborative treatment plans when offering therapy for sex workers.

Frequently asked questions

  • They also experience social stigma and discrimination, mistreatment by law enforcement, physical violence, harassment, and the fear of being arrested or prosecuted. All this can lead to the increased stress, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that people in the sex trade struggle with.

  • In another study, 44% of sex-workers reported having experienced sexual abuse in their lifetime. These high levels of sexual violence suffered by sex workers have very traumatic effects on the men and women working as prostitutes.

  • Therapists working with sex workers are best when they approach their patients with nonjudgmental, affirmative curiosity. Therapists can, and should, seek professional education about sex work, in order to provide effective and non-discriminatory treatment.

  • PTSD may be especially severe or long lasting when the stressor is planned and implemented by humans such as war, rape, incest, battery, or prostitution rather than natural catastrophes. Previous studies on prostitution have shown that prostitutes have a high prevalence of PTSD.
